2026 Florida Planning Conference

Oct. 13 – 16 | Miami

The 2026 Florida Planning Conference invites industry leaders to immerse themselves in Miami Está de Moda — planning the magic, remixing the future, a celebration of the bold ideas and creative spark that planners bring to shaping Florida’s communities.

 

Miami’s soundscape blends rhythms, cultures, and genres into something distinctly its own, setting the tone for a conference that’s vibrant, inspiring, and ready to turn up the volume on innovation. Miami Está de Moda infuses the pulse, style, and cultural soundtrack of our host city, creating a conference experience that resonates statewide to amplify the future of planning.

 

Let’s come together in Miami to learn and collaborate as we boldly strike the next beat that will shape Florida’s future.

HOW TO SUBMIT A SESSION

1.  Fill out practice form (download here) and get OK from fellow panelists.

 

2.  Then fill out online form (at bottom of this page). Please read instructions carefully including what browser to use and session presenter minimum/maximum. 

AREAS OF FOCUS

Miami Está de Moda: Planning the Magic, Remixing the Future, a celebration of the bold ideas and creative sparks that shape Florida’s communities. We invite you to submit proposals for sessions that elevate the conversation and challenge us to think differently. Topics that qualify for Law and Ethics AICP CM Credits are highly desired.

Innovations in Vogue

This track explores how planners can prepare for the future through emerging technologies and innovative practices. Topics may include:

  • Artificial Intelligence in planning
  • Transportation technology
  • Digital governance + innovation in community engagement
  • Advanced water and wastewater systems
  • APA Trends Report insights

Powering Places with Style

This track is focused on livability, and accessibility. This track addresses how planning can improve quality of life for all people and places. Topics may include:

  • Transportation access, safety, and first/last mile solutions
  • Walkability + Accessibility (ADA)
  • Public health and community well-being
  • Social resilience
  • Affordability + Quality of Life

Shaping Communities with Vision

This track covers the core of planning practice, how we manage growth and change. Topics may include:

  • Rural, Main Street, and agricultural best practices
  • Redevelopment, CRAs, and infill strategies
  • Growth management + policy
  • Infrastructure, TOD, and urban design
  • Housing + demographic changes

The Green Spark

This track has a focus on the environment. Topics may include:

  • Future-proofing communities
  • Extreme weather + environmental assessments
  • Urban heat and tree canopy
  • Coastal and inland resilience (Ocean & Glades)

The Florida Toolbox

This track provides practical tools and strategies for navigating Florida’s unique political and policy landscape. Topics may include:

  • Legislative and policy changes (e.g., Live Local Act)
  • Preemption and local government responses
  • Implementation strategies
  • Navigating political and administrative challenges

Wild Card

A flexible track for creative, cross-cutting, or unconventional topics that don’t fit neatly into the other categories. This track encourages innovation and surprise.

 

INFORMATION YOU NEED

New this year:

 

  • Spark Talks: Got a success story or an innovative idea that can ignite inspiration? Share it in a Spark Talk! These quick, high-energy presentations are delivered in person by a single speaker in a 10-minute time slot. Talks will be grouped and presented back-to-back, creating a dynamic, fast-paced format where each speaker delivers concise, impactful insights that spark new ideas and conversations. Ready to light the fire? Submit your Spark Talk today!

 

  • New Voices? Bonus Point!: We love fresh voices! To encourage first-time presenters, any session that includes a first-time FPC presenter will receive one (1) bonus point added to its final review score. It’s a great way to bring new perspectives to the conversation, so invite a first-timer and boost your session’s POV. (1 point maximum will be awarded).

 

  • Let’s get WILD!: This year, we’re channeling the electric vibe of Miami’s legendary nights into our sessions. Got an idea that’s bold, unexpected, and totally outside the box? Submit it for our Wild Card Track! Think Magic City after dark, bright lights, big energy, and endless creativity. Go on … surprise us you wild thing, you!

 

  • Speaker balance: For FPC26 we’re working to make sure everyone has a chance to share their expertise. To keep things balanced and give space for a variety of voices, we’ll be keeping an eye on how many panels each person is part of, as we rank the proposed sessions. This way, we can create a program that feels fresh and engaging for everyone.

All presenters must be in person.

The deadline for all propsals is at 5 pm ET on Feb. 13, 2026.
